Shadowbane

This is just funny – Hackers got into an online game and ruined it – Hackers Put ‘Bane’ in Shadowbane

The population of an entire Shadowbane town was forcibly moved to the bottom of the sea, where they drowned. City guards turned feral and attacked town residents. Mobs of never-before-seen superpowerful creatures, seemingly spontaneously spawned from the ether, began to prowl the streets unchecked, killing characters in the most painful way possible.

Digital Remix

As per usual, Cnet has some interesting things to say about digital music – State of the art: A medium reborn

The Dullest Blog

I think I posted this before, but its still funny: The dullest blog in the world. For example:

Walking along at a steady pace – May 17
I needed to get somewhere and decided to walk there. I wasn’t particularly early or particularly late, so I walked along at a steady pace.

Home Star Runner

Via Colin – you have to see Home Star Runner. Try these: Japanese Cartoon and the Intro. I feel bad for Strong Sad, though.

Oh, I also like the Trying to get a drink without actually getting a drink thing. Thats funny. This is funny here.

Matrix Reloaded

After seeing Matrix Reloaded last night, I’m feeling confused feelings. I’m going to do some spoiling, so don’t read this if you haven’t seen it. One question, what is the deal with Neo being able to use superpowers in the ‘real world’? It seems to me that this means that where Zion is is actually still the Matrix. Like there is another Matrix for people who are not satisfied with the Matrix that was made to keep them occupied. Did that make sense? Anyway, I thought it was OK but not great. I agree with a lot of the things that Ain’t it cool news said about it – for example, that the Burly Brawl scene with all of the Smiths was pretty much pointless. I mean, what did that accomplish? On the other hand, I do think the plot was pretty good if not a little too confusing. There is this corporate mofo guide that seems pretty cool (but even that confuses me. Plus, there are two other good discussions out there: here and here. In the end, I think the movie was good but obviously needs the third movie to make any real sense. Finally, one more site: Matrix Essays. Oh, and What’s So Bad about Living in the Matrix?

Having No job

Hivelogic has a really great piece about what it is like to not have a job – and to want/need one. I have a bit of experience with this thing, as I’m sure many college graduates do. I see it this way, either you get lucky, you look for a job for months upon months and enrol in a work-exchange program after working at an insurance company and move to a different country, or you go to grad school as soon as possible.

You have a single desire: find a good job or project as soon as possible.

When you drink coffee in the morning, you do so because this will heighten your response time, making you a more desirable candidate or project member and taking you one step closer to finding a good job or project as soon as possible.

When you consume food, you do so not to enjoy it, but rather because your physical body requires it to create the energy you need to talk to recruiters, potential employers, go on interviews, read and post to the job-boards, or perform the work which generates the money you need to pay bills.

CSS Zen Garden

css Zen Garden: The Beauty in CSS Design

Littering a dark and dreary road lay the past relics of browser-specific tags, incompatible DOMs, and broken CSS support.

Today, we must clear the mind of past practices. Web enlightenment has been achieved thanks to the tireless efforts of folk like the W3C, WaSP and the major browser creators.

The css Zen Garden invites you to relax and meditate on the important lessons of the masters. Begin to see with clarity. Learn to use the (yet to be) time-honored techniques in new and invigorating fashion. Become one with the web.

Tantek

The Box Model Hack is a famous trick that fixes the broken ‘box’ model in Internet Explorer 5 for the PC (the Mac version worked fine). The idea is simple, but complicated: basically, there are “user agents which misinterpret the CSS1 box model by placing border and padding inside the specified width”. The problem is that the CSS box model is complicated, and some programmers got it wrong in IE.

Mirrors

People take pictures of themselves in mirrors and post them to this site. This is the kind of thing that the internet is about, methinks. The Mirror Project.
